Coach K, a proud native of Decatur, Georgia, was raised in a household deeply rooted in public service, faith, creativity, and compassion. As a PK²—the daughter of a pastor and the first Black Chief of Police in DeKalb County, GA—Coach K’s early life was immersed in both community engagement and groundbreaking leadership.
A graduate of Chamblee High School (2002), she began her collegiate journey at Dillard University in New Orleans, where she studied Political Science and became a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. When Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans during her senior year, Coach K transferred to the University of Maryland and completed her B.A. in Government & Politics.
Coach K's journey took her to Salt Lake City, Utah where she would leave an unforgettable mark. During her eight years in Utah, Coach K made history multiple times. She was the first Project Manager for Salt Lake City’s inaugural Racial Equity in Policing Commission and later appointed as the first Chief Equity Officer in the Salt Lake City Mayor’s Office. In the first year of her appointment, Coach K and her team developed the city's first comprehensive Equity Plan, created a Language Access Policy and secured over $300,000 to expand multilingual access. Under her leadership, they also:
Coach K also made history as the first Black woman to run for City Council in District 3 of West Valley City. After her campaign, she was invited by Representative Sandra Hollins, Utah's first Black woman legislator, to lead community organizing and education efforts that led to the successful removal of slavery from the Utah State Constitution.
Internationally, Coach K has represented U.S. leadership on the global stage as an alumna of the Harvard Young American Leaders Program (YALP) and the American Council of Young Political Leaders (ACYPL), where she participated in a 2018 diplomatic exchange to Indonesia.
Now back in her hometown of Georgia, Coach K is the Founder & CEO of K Consulting Services and Mahogany Taurus Talent Agency. With over two decades of experience spanning government operations, executive leadership, project management, organizational strategy, and digital branding, she equips women, mompreneurs, youth, and corporate leaders with the skills necessary to unlock transformation in their personal and professional lives.
A published author and poet, certified Thinking 4 A Change Facilitator, business owner, and mother of two amazing daughters, Coach K brings her lived experiences into every room she enters. Her journey through near-death childbirth, starting from scratch as an entrepreneur, and balancing motherhood with public leadership has made her a trusted voice, coach, and mentor to many.
Her philosophy is simple but powerful:
“People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care. I lead with compassion and care because that's what establishes, trust, credibility and leads to legacy and positive impact.”
